    PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

    From Policy Handbook 160 – 180

NICS' Philosophy of Education is founded upon the revelation of God in his Word, the Bible - the absolute, complete, and final authority of truth. The Bible sets forth for man the purpose of and goals for life, among which are the glorification of God, the earnest desire for salvation of the unregenerate and the continued growth of each believer in ministry and service. God has revealed himself to man in history and has controlled the events of men and nations for his purposes.

Man was created in the image of God for the purpose of bringing glory and joy to God. This can only be achieved through a proper understanding of who God is as revealed in his Word. Man is responsible to know, understand, and act on those demands placed on his life by God. Man is called upon to admit his sinful nature and his need for God, and come to a right relationship with God through the totally efficacious death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, through the empowering of the Holy Spirit. This gives new meaning to life so that all of life's purposes and activities are to be under the direction of the Holy Spirit. God, through his Word, has given man moral principles by which he may order his life and give priority to certain life's activities.

The family is divinely instituted by God as his agent for equipping children to become mature Christian adults. The Christian school is an extension of the home and serves, together with the church, to work with the parents to achieve this end. Christian education will be most effective when all the participants have a proper understanding of God's design for life and how this is carried out in the education of the child. The Christian school recognizes the physical, spiritual, mental, and social areas of development in the child and seeks to work with the home in meeting needs in these areas. The Christian community has been called to be a unique people in the world as a testament to God. This can only be accomplished as Christian families set the Christian upbringing and education of their children as a priority. The Christian school will strive to work with the families of the school to this end.
